  • Fuel Rail 5.8

I was hoping to drop the motor in this weekend and installed the intake manifold and fuel rail. When I sat the upper plenum on there was very little clearance between the hose outlet on the regulator and the lower portion of the upper plenum. This is the fuel rail that was on the 5.8. I have the lightning lower. Do I need a different fuel rail? I'm hoping to have the fuel lines dump off the rear rather than the front. Is this possible? I would upload a photo I took but I'm on my iPhone riding shotgun headed up to Redding. It won't let me upload any photos from my phone. I can upload them when I get back home this evening.

Hey Brad, definately post some pics because I'm gonna be in the same boat! Only other thing I can think of for a rear dump is using an explorer fuel rail that has a return and putting longer high pressure flex hose between the two sides of the rail in order to widen them to fit on the 5.8 lower.

I am running an L lower and explorer upper on my 94 351 with the stock fuel lines. I had to move the coil, but no clearance issues with any stock fuel lines or reg.

The Mustang regulator is in the Front Pass, not sure where the truck one is . The Ford Van uses a Rear Driver regulator. The Van one is the one I am using. With a B.C. adapter and a Mustang upper pluse a 1" spacer.

I think I remember the truck rail having a pass side rear regulator.

Could you use a phenolic (sp?) spacer?

I'm not sure if this is possible but I was thinking about cutting about a third off the tube coming out of the regulator then flaring it. That should give me room to run a hose without kinking it I would think???

Cut just a smidge off & use a 90° vacuum hose.

That is an explorer upper. Hot tanked and ready for paint. Just test fitting before stabbing motor. Easier to work on stand where I can walk around motor...
