Ft60 is great for a first tome to veteran.
Just get a better antenna and youre good too go. The stock duck (antenna) is good as is but it lacks the range. My diamond can hit 200 miles away (pending conditions)

                        Calling all NCB members.
This is a special invitation for you to join a new Northern California chapter of LandOps. The Land Ops off road club primarily operates in SoCal. For the first time, membership is being opened to a select group of 4 wheelers from NorCal.
We're looking for good people who want to:
                        - practice ham radio comms skills
                        - drive 4x4s on beautiful NorCal trails
                        - improve map reading / land navigation skills
                        - participate in camping & team building activities
Visit Meetup to RSVP : http://www.meetup.com/LandOps/
PLEASE NOTE: If you are a licensed armature radio operator and you barely know how to use your radio, you are ESPECIALLY WELCOMED to join. This event will give you the opportunity to learn your radios and operate them.
You do not have to have an amateur radio license to join. You can participate using an FRS radio or a CB. CAUTION….this event may motivate you to get your license.
                        Cheers, Emmanuel KC6RUF
