  • 94 5.8 with explorer brackets question

I wanted to run my explorer brackets on my 94 ford bronco 5.8 but was wondering what do I do about my crankshaft pulley. Is there a doner vehicle that I can change pulleys with. The stock 5.8 has 4 bolts to take the pulley off. I just need to find a shallower pulley. Thanks Matt

Run a 28 oz modified Exploder balancer. Damper Dudes stocked them when I needed one.

WH also is reported to have kind of adapter doohickey, but I've never looked for it.

Thats an option to change my balancer but it would be easier just to change to a shallower pulley and cheaper. Has anyone done this?

Wild horses has a 3 bolt one but I need a 4 bolt. I see some on summit racing but not sure if they will work.

have you looked at March and other accessory vendors?

OR (having not held one) would it be possible to just redrill the explorer pulley?

        OR

I thought I read that Randy at driven auto has a conversion pulley?

You could also get an aftermarket damper that has both the 3 and 4 bolt patterns drilled and tapped in it. That would probably be easier than tracking down just a crank pulley

I'd call Damper dudes and get a rebalanced pulley/damper

spoke to driven. He has a flat faced balancer for like 130 and a new pulley for 70. Didnt ask what the balancer was as I had to hang up.

I called Damper Dude today and he wanted me to mill the face of the balancer which I think is crazy. It really shouldn't be this hard and it probably isn't. All I need is a pulley. So I think I am going to try my luck with summitracing and see if there 3 or 4 bolt pulley will work. Seems like the easiest and cheapest way. Don't really want to mess with the balancer if I don't have to.

So let me get this straight, the Explorer crank pulley has 3 bolt holes? And you need it to have 4 to fit the 28oz. 5.8L damper right? Are the two different dampers the same depth? If so, why not just drill a new set of holes in the Explorer pulley?

was wondering if this would work with a 3 bolt pulley from wildhorses or driven.

My Exploder balancer has the grooves in the balancer, there is no separate pulley. There are three drilled holes for the balancer puller to work with. I got it from Damper Dudes by asking for a 28 oz version of the Exploder balancer. What I recall is right around $200 delivered.

Here is some pictures. My pulley is separate from the balancer. We will see if the summit one will be the right off set

did you figure anything out Matt? I need to do something. My pulley was hitting my panhard at full stuff, bent the panhard, and now the damper hits the axle truss. Im wondering if there is any room to save the explorer stuff.
