  • EXCURSION 7.3 advice

Im looking to buy an Excursion with 7.3....one has 115k on it but the fella was a ford diesel mechanic. The other has 75k but the guy replaced the trans. The 115k is a 2002 and the 75k is a 2001. I just want some feedback from the crew here about the 7.3 diesel and any other advice would be great.
    Thanks,
    Roy H.

    Re: EXCURSION 7.3 advice

The 7.3 is the only way to go.. trans is the weak link, torque converter is really, TQ goes then destroys trans. Mine went at 195k so there is no real time line on when it will go... my 7.3 now has 205k on it. Exhaust and EZ box for best milage upgrades. 19 mpgc/22mpghwy on my F350 4x4/on 35's. I would say pick the one you or the wifey like the best and go for it. Do expect to put a trans in the one that hasnt been done (about $3500) so factor that in...

IMO Roy, The 02 unmolested one will be better. The one with the lift will ride like crap. Do your own upgrades. dont buy someone elses mistakes...Just looked at kelly blue book though,,, look like they are only worth about $14500 or so... dont pay bay area prices for them..

I have an 01 F 250 love it. The 02 stock one the better deal. 13K-15K is fair price. I got 200K on mine no problems, But my buddy's trans went on him at about 100K.

I agree with Pops, go with the 02 unmodified one, looks like the owner has addressed alot of maintenance items already: water pump, cam sensor, fuel filter, etc.
Anything that has a chip was probably flogged, as in needed a tranny at 75K.

My 02 F250 has almost 104k on it, trans gets serviced every 25K and I have an aftermarket temp gauge on it. Cam sensor was done at 60k and I have two spares... I have boost and exh temp gauges, with 4" exhaust, no programer. If you take care of the 7.3 they will run forever...

              Re: EXCURSION 7.3 advice

I checked both out yesterday. 02 is the best however the fella dosnt want to budge under 16k the 01 was a rust bucket and not worth 13k imo. Thanks for the insight fellers.

I'd keep an open mind on one that had aftermarket leafs. Stock they ride almost on the bump stops up front. They need to be lifted a tad.
