  • Good Campground in/near Yosemite

Looking for a good campground in/near Yosemite that can handle a 25ft 5th wheel. I dont want a RV park where your neighbors are sitting on top of you, prefer more forest than clear cut open pastures. I will be driving from Solano County so nothing on the east side of the park.

Shaver lake is an awesome camp ground and not to far from south gate. Only down side is $$$$. That and all the snow up there right now.

I think it was like $50 a night, but that is with full hook ups, Internet and cable (roughing it)

Leaving for Groveland, CA on sat. Can anyone advise on which Priest Grade to take? New or Old?

New Priest Grade is long and winds around a lot on switchbacks. Old Priest Grade is shorter and a lot steeper. There are several spots with water for overheating cars on that grade, or at least there were years ago. I usually go up "new" and down "old".

I would not tow anything on old, up or down.

Dont even chance old. There is a reason why there are 1 gallon bottles every 100 ft going up that. Plus it is a lot narrower then you think. Even without towing, your vehicle gets hot quick. I hate it when people tow up it.

We've got a place in Groveland, so thats how I know of it.

Hah... guess I skimmed too much and didn't see the part about towing. Definitely wouldn't tow up or down old priest grade!
