  • adjusting drum brakes and e brakes

anybody got a web site or pdf for the correct way to adjust all four drum brakes?

what does everyone recommend for e brake cables or are those for whimps?

I suggest converting to disc brakes...drums don't work when wet and are a p.i.t.a to work on!!! As for cables you can buy new from WildHorses or any other EB supplier. What I do for adjustment on drums is to run the adjuster out until you can just slide the drum over the shoes. Then you can spin the drum and slowly adjust until they just start to drag. Then back it off a couple of clicks and call it good. Good Luck!!

My 1st EB had drums on all fours and could be a handfull on the road.
Never knew which way the brakes would pull when comming to a stop.
      Off-road they worked fine.

      From what I remember:
Adjust as mentioned above ( isn't it called a star adjuster, something like that), and to fine tune the adjustment, drive the Bronco in reverse and apply the brakes and they will self adjust.

      Right?

Keep the e-brake. It comes in handy.
Speaking of that, mine needs some adjustment. Not sure about that.

Also a Haynes and a Chilton repair manuals can help.
I suggest getting both. Sometimes one has better info than the other.
These are books and seem low tech so you can always do a search on Yahoo or Google for:
      Drum Brake Adjustment or
      Drum Brake Adjustment Bronco
Both come up with a good amount of options to look up.
