      Re: Hello from China!

Not going to China but we leave for the Philippines tomorrow night. I haven't been in 40 years. We'll be there for 2 weeks. I'll take pictures of anything cool or odd or both. We're going to visit where our parents grew up so they can show us around. We're also going to stay at a beach resort for 5 nights.

Hey Gil, I think you'll find plenty to take pictures of!
A friend of mine was living there for 5-6 years for work, he loved it. For a while my employer was trying to staff a team in Manila but those plans were eventually scrapped; had it worked I would have gone there for a month. Oh well...

Check out the "jeepney" rigs. Those things are so odd.

I wish the Philippines werent so far. Can’t imagine my 5 year old on a plane that long. I’ve only heard really good things about it. Have fun.

Ah the first Jeepney! Those things are everywhere. I don't blame the kids for not sleeping on the plane. I can't either. Hopefully they will adjust quickly. How long was the flight?

The jeepney was using a clutch disc to hold a beyond bald spare tire on

Visited some relatives on my mom's side. We got to see where she grew up. One of my cousins is a mechanic and he made this grill from scrap

Tricyles and jeepneys are the primary mode of local transportation. Tricycles are basically motorcycles with side cars. Honda and Kawasaki 175s. They tried to put as much as possible on this one.

Here's my $6 bolo knife (machete). My dad says they usually make them from car leaf springs. My wife asked what I was going to use it for. I said all that yardwork I don't do.
