  • Anyone have an AR in 7.62x39?

Curious to hear what your experience has been. I am thinking of building one with a 16" barrel.

I'm thinking more power/efficiency from a short barrel, cheap bulk ammo and .30-30 power levels for pigs and such, in a light compact carbine.

A buddy of mine just built one. It took a little fine tuning to get the
magazine to feed at the correct angle, but he has not had any FTF's
after fiddling with that a bit. I like the 7.62 round, but not sure I need
an AR base to shoot it out of when SKS's are still so fun to shoot...

If I only bought what I need I'd be much better off.

        What about 308 size?

I'd rather build an AR-10 in .308 than have an AR-15 in 7.62x39. I think the .308 is a much more accurate round compared to the short Russian case...

Thanks for the compliments but it is a heavy rifle pushing 13lbs because of the barrel.
I do love to shoot it but if I had to leave here right now with just shit I can carry my M1A comes with. My M1A shooting American Eagle 168g BTHP is almost as good with iron sights. I had a scope on it - OK - but once you can fire an M1A with iron sights - you are QUALIFIED. It is my weapon of choice.

I prefer bolt action rifles to AR's mainly because having a lightweight buttstock tends to make an AR feel front heavy and kinda awkward especially with a bull barrell... Just my opinion..
