When installing a pto on my Dana 20 do I need to use a gasket to get proper gear mesh, or can I just use rtv?

    Re: pto gasket

You need to have some backlash. I'm not sure what the exact spec is but on big trucks they commonly use shims to get the correct backlash. Of course there's a redneck way to do almost anything but considering that if you have no backlash it could result in your transfer case burning up gears and eating itself.... You'd be wise to track down the shims.

One more question. Does it matter if the pto came off a T shift case and will be going on a J shift case?

Pretty sure the gear gut connections that deep down are all the same. Don't think it matters.

np435 has a PTO but not the stock 3 speed.

                  Re: pto gasket

Stock EB 3 spd doesn't have a PTO port. Some of our favorite swaps do though (NP435, ZF, NV4500)!

The PTO for the bronco goes on the Dana 20 in place of the inspection plate.

No, the gasket is not needed, use RTV.

Thx for the pic you sent me Marc. learn something everyday!! I really had no idea about the tc mount, only trans mounted and thought that maybe a different trans option went with the pto winch.

Oh, demesauce, pretty ballsey roll of the eyes response for someone with only 15 posts here don't ya think???
