  • Cut off the brake drums?

Junk yard EB Dana 44. Axles will turn with hubs unlocked. Have not removed hub lockers but grease is clean. Brake drums are frozen. Washed out some mud with water hose. Scraped some dirt out between drum and backing plate. Looks like unit set in the dirt a while. Tapped around drum with a hammer. Tried to turn hub with giant pipe wrench. Considering using a cutting wheel on the drums. Any relatively sane ideas that do not involve explosives?
    Just a stock 1966 U13, 170 ci 6 cyl, no kiddin'.

BFH and get mad! I've had to break an extremely worn brake drum off of a big truck before... That was a lot of work though. You may wanna try the cut-off wheel and a hammer and chisel.

Okay, brake drums off thanks to BFH. Now how to get the bottom nut off the knuckle?

Put a welding tip on your torch & heat the nut (nut only) glowing red. Should be able to turn it then while the balljoint shank stays put. That's the quick way. You could hose it down with PB blaster for a couple days but I get impatient.

Should take a 1 1/8" socket or box end wrench.
