  • C4 Won't hold park

Anyone run into this? I have adjusted the linkage a few times.

Anyone ever had a park pawl break or not hold?

The park pawl is easily broken off and semi common if you shift into park while moving.
It's not an easy fix, it's deep inside the Trannsmission and most people end up rebuilding while they are in there.
I would disconnect the linkage first to be sure.

Had that happen myself on an older c4. It was linkage related. For the size of trans the c4 pawl is quite strong. The pawl and gear are real tough. The linkage on the other hand is pretty cheesy. One needs to make sure the linkage is properly adjusted if that is ok then drop the pan and make sure the rest of the linkage is not bent or broken. If it is ill, you can fix all but the gear and pawl without removing the trans. But you will have to pull the extension housing. I have a c4 out right now and if I get a chance I can post pictures if you want.

I am messing with the linkage now. I had to remove a B&M ratchet shifter and go back to the column shifter.

Yeah I chucked the bad ass ratchet shifter. I ended up rebuilding the column shifter but something still isn't right.
