  • engine died now no battery power

Was warming up the bronco in the driveway when all of a sudden it stopped. I heard a "pisst" and saw a small puff of smoke looks like the solenoid. What causes this will a new solenoid fix it?

    Lost a fuseable link wire?

It would be the main power to the fuse block... Test light time.

Grounds would be the next thing to check.

One of the wires hooked up to the solenoid slightly melted. I think its the alternator wire. Had to leave the house will look at it tomorrow

Alt wire usually has a fuseable link from the factory... May need to pull it (alt) and have it checked if that is what failed.

So my left post has a thicker black wire attached to the post along with the red positive battery cable.it looks like the black cable goes into the wire loom and through the firewall. Haven't been able to track it in the dash but my guess is it hooks to the ignition switch. Should I have that wire off the post? It doesnt show it on the diagram.

You should have batt power at the solenoid going to the Alt and then there is a main feed to the fuse block... I want to say Ford used a Blk wire with yellow strip as the feed wire.

Replaced the relay when I pulled off all the wires. Replaced the fusible link and fired her up. No issues in the 15min that I drove around. Did not see any shorts or any other wire issues.
