    It sounds like you might have a couple of problems with different systems. That usually signals to me there are ground issues. Of course it is possible you have two or even three separate issues. The vehicle not cranking is not generally tied to dying while driving unless it is a ground concern. The body, chassis and engine should all have large ground leads. This stops the high load circuits from seeking their own ground, like using the speedo cable for a ground cable. In this instance you could also have a major power supply to the ignition switch that is loose or frayed. If your using the stock harness then the connection at the firewall could have some corrosion that rears it's ugly head when it warms up, especially if it's damp at all inside. (such as after washing) Keep at it , there is lots of assistance here.
