  • NP435 swap - cut threads off output shaft?

I read everything I could find on this, but was surprised when the folks at Wild Horses told me I should cut off the threaded portion of the NP435 output shaft. This is going into a Dana 20. Anyone heard of this? Seemed like everything mated up ok.

That is what I've done. You don't need the threads, and they stop it from fitting right.

You are using a 2wd NP435 and the threads are the Yoke nut threads. Cut em off, and grind it smooth. Remove the speedo drive gear if it is still on.

I wonder if it's a difference in adapters or trannies. We used the 1" spacer's and had to cut them. I would say to always check the fit before cutting anything.

Actually, I think it is a 76 F100 4WD transmission, it came with a Dana 21 attached. Still had the square pattern on the rear, though.
