  • On to the axle install - Bearings getting tight?

Installing a new set of WH extreme duty 31 spline axles. When I start to tighten up the retainer, the axles get extremely hard to turn - still have 1/4" to go but can barely get them to spin. Is that normal?

Are they tapered bearings??? Did you remove the old axle seal??

That retainer should slide all the way to the flange and sit flush without having to tighten it up to it. Some thing is binding. Does the bearing spin free on the axle? Shaft too long?

Umm... no. I sure wish I could work on this when I'm not bone tired. Just assumed that the new set was the same as the old set.

        Thanks

And do you have the correct lengh axles?
You are right to stop, if its binding, something is wrong.
