Installing a new set of WH extreme duty 31 spline axles. When I start to tighten up the retainer, the axles get extremely hard to turn - still have 1/4" to go but can barely get them to spin. Is that normal?

Are they tapered bearings??? Did you remove the old axle seal??

That retainer should slide all the way to the flange and sit flush without having to tighten it up to it. Some thing is binding. Does the bearing spin free on the axle? Shaft too long?67 Bronco blue - LS 6.0, 6l90, & atlas (working on it)
