    My stock 73 did the same thing. I think it is just axle wrap. If the rear brakes don't work or aren't adjusted right it will make it much worse. Try to have someone drive it while you watch the springs.

      If you find out that it is indeed the Transmission, then I can recommend two tranny shops to look at yours. One in Sunnyvale and one in Salinas...
