  • 3G alternator

Swapped over to the explorer front dress, Saginaw pump bracket and all.

now to figure out my new alternator, every specs I find show colored wires out of the pigtail….mine are all black.

so far the cable off the lug goes to a starter solenoid then down to the starter and back to the battery.

the top wire goes to the electrical system.

is this right for these two? I am only getting 11.89 volts off the lug

You are only going to use two of those wires on the regulator plug... The Alt is called a 4G, not that it matters a whole, as the 3G and 4G are pretty close except for the mounting points.

What would have been a yellow wire that is voltage sensing, it goes to the Batt terminal on the Alt.

The other one is the Field wire, which is usually green and red striped. That will go to the same color wire on the regulator harness or if you have an aftermarket harness it could be another color.

The last wire is for the stator, white with black strip, which is typically not used in the Explorer application.

I'm looking for a picture so we can decode the plug you have....

        So as I understand it.

Far left yellow wire goes to alternator/battery lug.

The middle wire from the regulator plug goes to the Stator plug.

I have a Painless kit in my 72.

at least this is helping, dude!
