  • chebby heater motor upgrade.

Just got done doing the chebby heater motor upgrade. Puts out alot more air but I will have to turn up the stereo now. It's alittle loud on high.

I have never heard of this...is it a direct bolt in? This would be nice for trips at night with the top off...let us know..

Here's the long and winding post on the CB site.
      http://www.classicbroncos.com/forums...t=chevy+heater

Very easy mod. You will have to enlargen the hole in the front on the heater box to allow the new fan blade. Wiring is a snap, ground wire from the heater body to the back of the metal heater box, power wire is the same, just a differant type of connector. It's alittle loud on high but it does put out more air. I would like to find a 3 way switch to wire in to have a 3 speed heater. Guess I will have to start looking.

I thought there was an update where you can use the chevy heater motor with the stock fan and not have to enlarge the hole.

you can use the stock blade however I think you will need to make some modifications to the back of the heater box as the chevy motor sits alittle farther into the box then the stock motor. I think the stock blade will hit the back of the heater box.

NAw, you should be able to do it with the heater box still in the truck. Just take out the motor mounting screws and pull the motor out....

                  Heater Upgrade

This is a must do...especially since my heater motor recently died.

I had to remove mine to replace the heater core but I guess it could be done in the truck.

That was one of the first things I did to my Bronco. It makes a big dif. Its not hard at all & I did it all in the cab.

                        Re: chebby heater motor upgrade.

I just did this. Chevy motor with stock fan and it fit fine... no grinding or enlarging of the box. Took all of about 30-45 minutes. It puts out so much warm air it almost makes me forget that I only have tube doors and no top!

                          Re: chebby heater motor upgrade.

I did the Chevy Motor/Fan about two years ago. Dispite the brand, it was a big improvement. Easy upgrade to do! When I did mine, I took out the box, replaced all seals and core. I was as snug as a bug when we wheeled in at night for Holloween. I would recommend the project to everyone.

I was going to do this upgrade this year but then we didn't get any snow... what part numbers did you use? Might as well go pick up the parts now. Thanks

I can't remember #'s, but the parts where from Napa. I first place learned about this upgrade was from an article in Bronco Driver, a couple years ago. I'll see if I can dig it up for you. I do know the motor and fan cage are mid 70's chevy 1/2 ton pick up. I think if you say that at the parts place they will get what you need.
