  • Trans "rattle"

The SixShooter, having reached its cruising speed of 40 MPH, has what I would call a rattle in the trans when coasting. It goes away under a load, but not in neutral. I suspect goesinta or goesouta bearings. Any comments?

What transmission? If a manual, it may be the throw out bearing.

I would look at driveshafts (the cv) first.

Stock 6 banger 3 speed. It doesn't quit when I push in the clutch. The drive shafts are not the CV type and have new u joints.

              Re: Trans "rattle"

The linkage is tight. Interesting about the slip joint. That goes with the coasting only deal. I will check this weekend. Maybe my description of a "rattle" is misleading. What would worn input/output shaft bearings sound like? I have the cutout in the tunnel open and it sure sounds like the trans.

                Re: Trans "rattle"

If your tunnel is open then pull the top off the trans and see what wiggles inside..

                  Re: Trans "rattle"

Uh... that would be the side of the tunnel. So some PO could get to the TC linkage.

Radio? Dang, I knew I forgot something. Suppose I could freshen up the lube before I pull the thing out. That would be smarter, not harder.
