  • F150 Project

Well since the bronco is pieces and I have this incredible urge to make some of the snow runs this year. I decided to take my miled mannered 77' F150 and spruce it up for some snow wheeling/mud bogging/camping duty.
So I sold the 35" AT's and took a little bit of bronco cash and picked up the 38.5's. I went out to the shed and grabbed the 1/2 ton lift springs and a shackle flip. So from tuesday until now, I've been putting in a couple hours a day to get all this stuff installed.

Well the "free" lift didn't turn out quite right, so I had to order some longer shackles to raise the ass end up. No to bad, roughcountry sold me two shackles with bushings for $50 and they will be here next wensday. The total lift looks to be 6" in front and I'm shooting for 6.5-7 in the rear.

77's have the dreaded "y" steering, so I'll have to do a heim over setup and a drop pitman arm. The overall goal is to put this thing back on the road for as little $$$$ as possible using random parts we have around here. I already found a driveshaft that should work for the front, we have a couple different pitman arm options. unfortuneatly non of the steering can be done until the lift is finished. Then I will have to play some games with string to figure out the best steering/trac bar setup. The goal of making the uncle toms run next satureday, just isn't going to happen, school starts back up on monday and the shackles wont be here till Wed. but we'll see.

    oh and some specs,

351M rebuilt??? definatly has some kind of RV/4x4 cam and came out of another wheeler.
    NP435/205
    Stock axles 3.50's and open

I'm half heartedly searching for an Aussie or other kind of LSD for the front and I'll leave the rear open. This truck gets great MPG for what it is, when the 35's were on it; it averaged 16 mpg.

Oh and here at O.F.F we don't use floor jacks; we use forklifts because we can.

Light bar thing eh ah eh, truck might end up white. Besides it matches the chrome front bumper.

Satin black on that thing too! Black powder on the wheels and you'll look like a raiders fan...

I have a stock 78-79 F150 pitman arm you can have. I will just have to put my Dodge one on.

                        Re: F150 Project

It's not gonna be a wheeler Darin, no need for a cage. Besides the 6" lift coils are stiff as f$&@ and I'm not gonna spend the $$$ for 6" flexy coils. The truck will continue it's life of 8 miles to and 8 miles back once a week to the dump. And it should be just fine for trail running in the snow. This is why I really want an FSB; one day I'll have a whole family cruiser.

I'm thinking about one of those XRC 8000 on a receiver cradle.
