  • Latest Creation--Rear 9" Gusset

After replacing my rear leaf springs and u-bolts, I came up with this using 2 X 4 188 wall tubing.

Did you use an alignment bar and pucks to keep the housing straight?

Looks sweet man! Nice and clean. Like Gil asked, did you use some kind of alignment bar or stitch weld it to keep the heat down so as not to warp the housing.

I did the stitch weld method, plus the criss cross apple sauce @ 2-2.5 in length, so not to much heat would be introduced at one time. End to end it took about 6 hours between welding and cooling. Aaron you got it dude!

You might still want to check it with an alignment bar and pucks. if your off as much as 1/8 even 1/16 the axel is toast...I did the same in a car i put a 9 in and was off 1/16'' didn't get 500 miles out of it...

I don't have a bar and pucks to check it. So what I did is clamped two straight edges on both axle flanges and took measurements, and rotated the stright edges. End result, I checked it 360degrees. And it appears to be right on. Since install I've clocked over 1500 miles.

I wanted to say the Shaffers off road is now cutting these back braces that go from axle bearing to axle bearing on his torchmate for a damn good price.
I'm sure after spending all that time making one you'd agree they are worth it to buy.
